Timeline: Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga

From what started  as a dream Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga has become a huge phenomenon creating  a cult of vampire obsessed fans. The Twilight saga consists of four bestselling novels which follows the story of star-crossed lovers- human girl Bella Swan and Vampire heart-throb Edward Cullen.  Due to the overwhelming  popularity of the novels it made its way onto the big screen. Twilight the movie has created even more twi-hard fans and actors Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have become thrown into super-stardom. Twilight is all around and its hard to find a teenage girl who hasn’t got the Obsessive Twilight Disorder. But how did it all begin?

2nd June 2003:  The idea for Twilight is born from Stephenie Meyers vivid dream. She then invents the plot during swimming lessons with her three sons.

September 2003: Meyer  finishes her first novel. She submits her manuscript to numerous literary agencies but is rejected by many.

November 2003: Stephenie Meyer eventually signs a $750,00 deal with Little Brown and Company

5th October 2005: Twilight is published and within weeks it reaches number 5 in The New york Times best seller list. It is  named Best Book of the year by Publishers Weekly.It went on to sell 17 million copies around the world.

April 2006: Movie rights to the book are claimed by Rob Freidman and Erik Feig- production chief at Summit Entertainment.

September 2006: The anticipated sequel New Moon is released and spends more than 25 weeks at number 1 spot on the New York Times bestseller list.

August 2007: Director Catherine Hardwicke known for films such as Thirteen is signed to direct the Twilight movie .

7th August 2007: Eclipse the 3rd novel in the saga is released and sells more than 150,000 copies in the first 24 hours alone.

16th November 2007: Summit Entertainment announces that Kristen Stewart will star as the character Bella Swan in the Twilight movie.

11th December 2007: Robert Pattinson is cast as Edward Cullen for the Twilight movie.

2nd August 2008: Breaking Dawn the fourth novel in the saga is released and sells 1.3 million copies in the US and 20,000 copies in the UK in the first 24 hours.

October 2008: Twilight becomes the biggest selling novel of the year.

21st November 2008: Twilight the movie is released in the USA. It grossed $35.7 million on its first day.

17th December 2008: Twilight  the movie is released in the UK.

December 2008: Catherine Hardwicke announces she will not be directing the next film New Moon. Chris Weitz is announced as the new director.

March 2009: Twilight DVD is released.

20th November 2009: New Moon movie is released in theaters.

16th March 2010: Stephenie Meyer is to launch Twilight the graphic novel with illustrations by Korean artist Young Kim.

22nd March 2010: New Moon DVD released  in the UK.

30th June 2010: Eclipse– the 3rd movie in the saga is to be released.
